State of The Parks - May 2012

May 10, 2012

RV Park owners, when you look out your window and see all the empty sites you have, get in your car and drive to the local Wal Mart. Look at all the RV's there and go home and re-evaluate your pricing model. Give the people a reasonable price and your sites will be full instead of the parking lot at Wal Mart.

It's time to go back into travel mode. We've been at the house now for a couple months and we're itching to get on the road again. We should be leaving around May 29th for points east. Debbie made our reservations for our stops along I-40. We don't usually ask the rate when reserving but we will from now on. Two of the parks we reserved at charged us up front, which is not unusual, but when I saw the credit card bill I found we'd been charged $40 per night at two places. This explains why the Wal Mart parking lots are full of RV's at night. For an overnight stop we'll use "maybe" $6 worth of electricity and we NEVER dump on an overnight stop. That's why we have holding tanks. I don't need your pool or any of your "amenities". I just need a piece of dirt to park on with a 50 amp connection. I've always had the mindset that if I can afford to have an RV I can afford to use RV Parks. It's no longer a matter of whether I can afford it or not. It's become a matter of principle. $40 is an OUTRAGEOUS price to pay for a piece of dirt and a power hookup. Wal Mart will let me use their asphalt for free and I have a generator. We will continue to use RV Parks as long as the rate is reasonable. If you own an RV park and you're going to charge me $40 you can look for us at the local Wal Mart because that's where we'll overnight if we're in your area from now on. We can't even cancel those reservations because they will charge us $10 just to cancel. Rest assured this is the last dollar these two parks will get from us. Look for our reviews in the coming weeks. You'll know which ones they are!
